Workshop Description: This workshop serves as the global launch of the SPEAK Young Women’s Vocal Empowerment Curriculum. This curriculum utilizes tools developed by theatre performers and voice pathologists for vocal strengthening and expansion of expressive range, which improves young women’s level of vocal empowerment. The curriculum guides young women through a series of vocal exercises, group activities, collaborative skit building and deep reflection. It culminates with a public sharing in which young women identify community challenges and enact solutions. The process is sustained by peer support and the joy and wellbeing that comes from empowered self-expression. This workshop will provide introductory training for facilitators to lead this curriculum in their own community.
Description of the NGO CSW Forum: The NGO CSW (Non-governmental Organizations Commission on the Status of Women) organizes the civil society side of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The NGO CSW Forum runs parallel to the events occurring within the UN Headquarters. Over two weeks—from March 15-26-- the Commission on the Status of Women, NGO CSW/NY organizes more than 500 events that inform, engage and inspire grassroots efforts and advocacy needed to empower women and girls.
